What light and electronics brands ask

Battery and radio questions,
answered straight.

Lights, computers and sensors carry batteries and radios, and Amazon has rules for both. Here's what these brands ask us.

  1. What battery documents does Amazon need to sell rechargeable bike lights?

Three things, product by product. First, complete battery details on the listing: chemistry, watt-hours, number of cells and batteries, battery weight and how it's packed. A lithium-ion battery built into a light ships as UN3481; a spare battery sold on its own is UN3480.1

Second, a lithium battery test summary showing the battery passed the UN 38.3 tests; Amazon asks for it when the product is set up.2 Third, often a safety data sheet or exemption sheet for the dangerous-goods review.3 We collect these from you once, keep them on file and send them every time Amazon asks.

  2. Amazon keeps blocking our light listings over battery information. Who can fix this?

We can, and it's usually a mismatch. Watt-hours in one field but not another, a cell count that doesn't match the test summary, or a battery type that contradicts the safety data sheet. Any one of those can hold a listing back.

We list battery-powered lights with the full set of battery details Amazon requires, and we've learned the hard way that an offer can be accepted and still never show to shoppers. So we don't stop at "submitted": we check that each one is actually live on Prime.

  3. Our lights are buried under cheap brands claiming huge lumen numbers. How do we compete?

With numbers riders can trust. We put your measured output, run time in each mode and beam pattern up front, and say which standard you measured to, such as ANSI/PLATO FL 1, when you have. Your beam shots and an A+ comparison chart across your range do the rest.

Then we fund ads on searches for your brand and products from our own budget, so riders comparing lights find yours with the facts beside it.

  4. What FCC information does Amazon need for bike computers and sensors?

Proof the radio is authorized. Bluetooth and ANT+ devices are radio-frequency devices, and US rules bar marketing them before they have the required FCC equipment authorization.4 Amazon asks for that on the listing: an FCC ID, a responsible party's contact details, or a statement that the product is exempt. It began removing listings missing that information in March 2022.5

We take those details from your certification and enter them for each product and each option, so a new color or bundle doesn't get pulled for a missing field.

  5. Do coin-cell lights and sensors need special warnings to sell on Amazon?

Yes, under the federal coin-battery rule known as Reese's Law. Consumer products with button or coin cells need warnings on the packaging, on the product where practical, and in the instructions, plus a certificate of compliance that cites 16 CFR 1263. The CPSC has applied it to products made or imported after March 19, 2024.6

That covers many speed and cadence sensors, heart-rate straps and small clip-on lights. The certificate is yours to issue; we keep a copy on file and send it whenever Amazon asks.

On the listings

Where light listings
go wrong.

Common problems on light, computer and sensor pages, and what we do about each.

  • Accepted isn't the same as live

An offer can pass every check and still never reach shoppers if its battery details don't line up. We check every one goes live.

  • Two batteries, two sets of rules

A light with a built-in battery and a spare battery pack sold on its own ship under different rules. Each needs its own complete listing details.

  • Will it pair with my phone?

Shoppers ask which phones, apps and sensors a computer works with. Clear compatibility facts on the page, and answers to their questions, keep returns down. Shopper questions are on us.

  • Batteries hiding in other products

Electric mini pumps, radar tail lights and rechargeable accessories carry the same lithium paperwork as a headlight. We treat them the same way.
